Play Lights Out Online Free - Classic Turn Off Lights Puzzle Game

What Is Lights Out?

Lights Out is a classic electronic puzzle reborn for the web: the board starts with several lights randomly switched on, and tapping any light toggles it and its four neighbours — a plus-shaped group of up to five cells — flipping each from on to off or off to on. The goal is deceptively simple: switch off every light on the board, using the fewest taps. It plays free in your browser, no download needed.

How to Play Lights Out

  1. Read the board. Some lights are on, some off; you need them all off.
  2. Tap a light to toggle a plus shape. Tapping any cell flips itself and its four neighbours (up, down, left, right) — the corners and edges affect fewer cells.
  3. Chase the lights toward a solved board. Work top-to-bottom, left-to-right, using each tap to switch off the light above or to the left of the cell you press.
  4. Match the Par. Each level has a known optimal solution; the Par above the board is the minimum number of taps, and matching it proves you found the intended path.

Strategy Tips

  • Chase top-to-bottom. The standard method is to resolve the top row, then work down — each tap turns off the light above it, so order matters more than cleverness.
  • Never tap the same cell twice. Two taps on one cell cancel out, so the optimal solution never repeats a cell; if you are re-tapping, you are off the shortest path.
  • Use the hint to find the optimal cell. When stuck, the hint highlights a cell from the true solution — study it to learn the pattern rather than just clicking through.

Lights Out FAQ

Is Lights Out free?

Yes — it is completely free on this site. No paywall, no download and no account; open the page and start tapping.

What does Par mean?

Par is the minimum number of taps needed to solve a level. Matching it shows you found the optimal solution; you can still win with more taps, but masters aim for par.

Why shouldn't I tap the same light twice?

Because a double tap toggles the same plus shape twice and cancels itself out — it changes nothing while wasting a move. The optimal solution never repeats a cell.
