Play 2048 Online Free - Merge Number Puzzle Game
What Is 2048?
2048 is the sliding-tile puzzle that took the internet by storm: swipe to slide a 4×4 grid of numbered tiles, and when two tiles showing the same number collide they merge into one tile worth their sum. The goal is to build a tile that reads 2048 — and then, if you like, keep going toward 4096 and beyond. It is free, plays right in your browser, and needs no download or sign-up.
How to Play 2048
- Swipe (or use arrow keys) to slide every tile. All tiles move in the direction you choose, as far as they can, and stop only at the wall or another tile.
- Merge equal neighbours. When two tiles with the same number meet, they collapse into one tile worth their combined value — 2 + 2 = 4, 4 + 4 = 8, and so on.
- Absorb the new tile. After every valid move, a new tile appears in a random empty cell — usually a 2, sometimes a 4.
- Build the 2048 tile to win. You can keep playing past 2048 toward 4096 and 8192; the game only ends when the board fills with no adjacent tiles left to merge.

Strategy Tips
- Lock your biggest tile in a corner. The classic winning technique: keep the largest tile pinned to one corner and build a descending row next to it so merges feed into it.
- Snake your tiles. Arrange numbers in a zig-zag descending order so the board merges like a conveyor belt instead of scattering into dead ends.
- Never swipe against your corner. One careless move can slide your cornerstone out of place and bury it — think before every swipe.
